Margate is synonymous with nostalgic weekends by the seaside, amusement arcades and the Jolly Boys’ Outing in Only Fools and Horses. The reopening of Dreamland and an influx of independent eateries with a focus on sustainability and local produce has marked the regeneration of the beachside town, making Margate a top hotspot for a weekend staycation within a couple of hours from London. Rooftop drinks overlooking the beach, fresh seafood of the highest quality and the best sunsets in Kent – get yourself to Margate to discover it all for yourself.
When I think of Paris I think of flaky, buttery pastries and beautifully crafted patisserie, wine bars where you can order the house wine and know it’ll be delicious, drinking as you sit out on the pavement people watching. Famous historic sights to see, beautiful architecture, excellent cheese and even better bread.
I’ll be honest, the City of Lights was a grower for me. Not that I didn’t like it, but it took me a while to love it (my fourth trip in fact!) Places like Florence and Venice were an instantaneous love affair for me, but Paris took a while. Maybe because it’s big and I favour smaller cities, or perhaps a classic case of slow burn. But after five trips and a day trip at Christmas planned, it really has a hold over me. Paris really is always a good idea.

With endless museums, cracking sunset views over the city and winding streets with plenty of places for an Aperol pit stop every time the heat or the walking gets to be a little too much, the capital of Tuscany makes the perfect city break.

Marrakech, probably the most famous of Moroccan destinations – souks filled with spices, textiles, leather and glassware; beautiful architecture covered in brightly coloured tiles and carved plaster; an abundance of rooftop cafes and bars. All of these things meant I was sure Marrakech would swiftly become one of my favourite destinations, but in reality I found it quite tricky to travel as a solo female.
